Jaigarh Fort

Jaigarh Fort is simply spectacular. It is intact in its original splendour. Lying on top of the same hill as Amber Fort, it is believed the two were connected by a series of tunnels.

The Rajputs used Jaigarh (literally, the Victory Fort) for production of artillery. The Jaivana, world's largest cannon on wheels is also found here. The design of the fort is fascinating. The foundries could draw in blasts of air from the desert. The fort has a five kilometer long canal and tanks to hold water besides water harvesting systems.

It is a common belief that there are hidden treasures in this fort. Being a military stronghold, this is a rugged fort. These days, the fort houses a museum that has a formidable collection of coins, puppets, photographs of the kings, buildings, processions and even a circular pack of cards besides other objects. Swords, shields, guns, muskets and even a 50 kg cannon ball are on display. The view of the barren Aravalli Hills disappearing into the desert is absolutely bewitching.
