The beautiful city of Udaipur is one of India's major luxury travel destinations. Numerous lakes, forts and palaces as well as luxury hotels make Udaipur very special.

Earlier this region was known as Mewar and Udaipur was the capital city of the Mewar kingdom. The founder of Udaipur was Rana Udai Singh who settled here after Akbar, the Mughal emperor captured Chittor.

City of Lakes and Venice of the East are just two of the popular names of Udaipur. The Pichola Lake, Fateh Sagar, Udai Sagar and Swaroop Sagar in Udaipur are considered among some of the most beautiful lakes in the state. Udaipur is also home to the Udaipur Solar Observatory, one of the six stations participating in the international Global Oscillations Network Group (GONG) setup to study the physical properties of the solar interior.

There is no dearth of sightseeing in Udaipur. The City Palace, Lake Palace, City Palace Museum, Maharana Pratap Memorial, Sajjangarh fort, Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar, the solar observatory and a zoo are just some of the attractions here. Eklingji temple, the Jagdish temple and Kumbhalgarh wildlife sanctuary are places that are a must visit. Several of the palaces are luxury heritage hotels, offering the finest experience in royal living and dining.

For art lovers, Udaipur is a shopper’s paradise. Paintings, Miniatures, Contemporary Art, Marble Handicrafts, Metal Furniture, Jewellery, Fabric, Carpets & Rugs and much more is available here. It is also known for its leather products, and hand woven rugs. Udaipur also has several Art Galleries. Udaipur is also known for its Pichwais that are collector’s delight. The main shopping areas in Udaipur are Rajasthan Government Handicraft emporium - a shopper’s delight, Chetak Circle, Bapu Bazar, Chetak Circle, Hathipole and Lake Palace Road.

Udaipur has its own airport and all major airlines fly to Udaipur. It is also lined directly by rail and road to major cities across the country.
