Built by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1743, the Lake Palace was originally designed as a royal summer palace and has now been converted in to a five star palace hotel. The Lake Palace is located on the Jag Niwas Island in the Pichola Lake and is spread over the entire 1.5 hectare of the island.
The Lake Palace is truly a fairytale destination. Made of white marble that gleams in moonlight, intricate carvings and specially designed furnishings made of textiles that are a specialty of this region make this palace truly special. Courtyards lined with columns, pillared terraces, fountains and gardens make the Lake Palace a fascinating place. The rooms of the palace have embellishments like cusped arches, pink inlays, green lotus leaves and painted mirrors. The apartments have names like Bada Mahal, Kush Mahal, Sajjan Niwas, Phool Mahal and Dhola Mahal, with decor to match.
The Lake Palace is now a popular luxury hotel and its romantic setting is extremely popular for conducting weddings as well as celebrating honeymoon.
